It's a charmglow electric fireplace that heats up to 1500 sq ft, the problem is when i plug it in my basement or garage and it will run for about 5-10 min then it blows the fuse or circuit in the basement or garage. why is it doing this? I would like to be able to use it this winter.
When i first bought it, it worked fine anywhere in the house, but how would i go about hardwiring it into the circuit?

Answer
You are probably exceeding the wattage rating for the plug or circuit
that the plug is tied into.My suggestion, find it a permanent home.
Now hardwire it into a circuit all it's own. Make sure the wattage
and the amperage drawn are within the specifications of the
circuit breaker. Now if you are looking for a heater you can move around
consider one of the family safe electric heaters designed for this
kind of service.

Best way to heat a house in winter?

My family has a 7000 sq. ft house that has three wings, and we need a better heating system for winter. The main wing stays pretty warm...dining room, bookroom, sitting room etc., because of the electric gas fireplace we have installed in the main wing room. The front wing, right off the main wing, keeps warm too, and we have a guest living there. But the back wing, where we mostly stay, can get really cold at times.

There is an old radiator system in the basement that we use, but it costs so much to run! We were thinking about pellet stoves and wood burners, but any other ideas would really help.

Thanks!! Also...any links would be helpful :)

Answer
if you have a fireplace you put logs in there and lite it, it really works, we have two fireplaces in our house and when you lite them both it really livens up the place, i feel like warmth just spreads through me like oven heat spreads through a pie while warming for Christmas supper or like the hot coaco that you have on a cold winter day that just mists up the window! If you don't have a fireplace, go and buy a steel box and lite the fire in there! It definitley works!
